Publishing a Downloadable Document in WordPress Print

Use a File block to give readers a clear route to a document, including when their browser cannot show an inline preview.

Steps

  1. Add a File block and upload the document or select it from the Media Library. Your account must have the required upload capability.
  2. Edit the visible file label and download-button wording so they describe the document. Check the chosen attachment rather than relying only on its filename.
  3. Preview the page and test the document link. A browser may open a supported format instead of saving it immediately, depending on its settings.
  4. Publish and test on a phone or in a private browser session. Keep a usable direct link even if an embedded preview is unavailable.
  5. When updating the document, use the block’s replacement control and check other pages that link to the earlier attachment. Replacing this block’s selection does not establish that every old file URL was updated.

Check the result

The public link should retrieve the intended current file, and its label should still make sense without the page’s surrounding text.

Before you continue

Review the document for private data before uploading. A restricted post or hidden menu does not by itself restrict direct access to a file stored in public uploads.
