How to Export WordPress Pages and Posts Print

The built-in export produces an XML content file for supported WordPress imports. It is useful for moving editorial content between sites.

Steps

  1. Open Tools → Export with an appropriately permitted account.
  2. Choose all content or a filtered selection of posts or pages.
  3. Review author, date, category, and status filters where offered.
  4. Select Download Export File and save the resulting XML securely.
  5. If using it for a move, import into a separate destination first and review the imported content before retiring the source.

Check the result

Check page and post counts, authorship, categories, tags, and media availability at the destination.

Before you continue

The XML export is not a complete hosting backup or a bundle of all media binaries, themes, plugins, and settings. Media transfer can depend on the destination retrieving source files. Keep the original uploads and a full backup available until the destination is verified. Treat exports containing unpublished content or user information as private.
