Finding Why WordPress Visitors See Old or Missing Content Print

Check the saved item and the visitor’s exact destination before clearing caches or editing templates.

Steps

  1. Reopen the item and confirm that the latest text was saved. Inspect its publication status, visibility, and scheduled time.
  2. Use the item’s public link and compare the full domain and path with the address visitors use. A preview link or another site in a multisite network can show different content.
  3. If the direct item is correct but a listing is wrong, inspect that listing’s category, query, excerpt, and template choices. Editing a page does not necessarily edit a separate posts archive.
  4. Compare a private browser window with your signed-in view. Clear the affected page in the site’s configured cache and CDN, if present, rather than repeatedly republishing unchanged content.
  5. If only one image remains old, inspect the image block’s selected attachment and actual URL. A second Media Library upload may create a new attachment rather than replace every use of the old file.

Check the result

Visit the same public URL from a fresh session and check both the item and the listing or menu through which readers find it.

Before you continue

Do not change the site address, permalink structure, or whole-site template merely to refresh one page. Identify the layer showing the outdated content first.
