How to Add and Edit Links in WordPress Content Print

Use descriptive links so readers understand the destination before opening it.

Steps

  1. Edit the post or page and select the text to link. Open the link control in the block toolbar, or use Ctrl+K on Windows or Command+K on macOS.
  2. Search for an existing page or post on the site, or paste the complete external URL including its protocol.
  3. Select or apply the destination. Review any available open-in-new-tab option deliberately rather than enabling it for every link.
  4. To correct a link, select the linked text and use Edit. To keep the text without the link, use the unlink control.
  5. Save the content and test the destination from the preview or public page.

Check the result

The link should open the intended page without an error or unexpected redirect. Check that its text still describes the destination accurately.

Before you continue

Pasting a URL onto its own line can create an embed instead of a normal text link. For a text link, select the words first. A link to restricted content does not grant the reader access.
