Make a download easy to identify and test its actual public URL. A button that works inside the editor is only part of the check.
Steps
- Prepare a clearly named, reasonably sized file and remove information that should not be public.
- Upload it through the file/media controls available in your edition and obtain its file link. Use the text or element link controls to connect the intended label or button to that address.
- Describe the file and format in the visible link text. For a large file, state its approximate size so visitors can decide whether to download it.
- Preview and publish, then open the link in a private browser window. On mobile, verify that visitors can still open or download the file when an inline preview is unavailable.
- When replacing a document, check whether the new upload has a different URL and update every intended link. Retain an older copy only where its continued availability is intentional.
Check the result
The published control should retrieve the correct current document without requiring your editor session.
Before you continue
Hiding a navigation entry or protecting a page does not establish that a directly linked upload is private. Use an access-controlled document system for restricted files.
