Categories group posts into broad topics and can contain parent and child relationships. Use a small, understandable structure.
Steps
- Open Posts → Categories and review existing categories before adding another.
- Enter a clear name and review the slug used in its archive address.
- Choose a parent only when the new category is a meaningful subtopic.
- Save the category and assign the relevant posts through their editor or appropriate bulk controls.
- Inspect the resulting category archive and any menu links pointing to it.
Check the result
Posts should appear under their intended topics without a collection of nearly identical category names.
Before you continue
Categories ordinarily organize posts, not standard pages. Changing an established category slug can alter archive URLs and affect shared links. Deleting a category is different from deleting its posts, but it still changes organization, so review assignments and navigation first. Use tags for narrower recurring labels instead of creating a category for every phrase.
