How to Edit a Menu in a Classic WordPress Theme Print

Classic themes commonly manage navigation through the Menus screen. Block themes usually use navigation blocks in the Site Editor instead.

Steps

  1. Open Appearance → Menus where available and select the correct existing menu, or create one.
  2. Add the required pages, category archives, or custom links.
  3. Drag entries into order. Indent an item beneath another to create a submenu where the theme supports it.
  4. Assign the menu to the intended display location and review automatic page-addition options.
  5. Save the menu and inspect it on the public website.

Check the result

Test every entry on desktop and mobile, including submenu items and external links.

Before you continue

Creating a menu does not necessarily assign it to the header. Display locations depend on the active theme. Removing an entry from a menu does not delete its page or make that page private. If Menus is absent, check whether the theme uses the Site Editor before changing the theme or installing another tool.
