How to Use Tags on WordPress Posts Print

Tags provide narrower labels that can connect related posts across broad categories. They do not use parent and child relationships.

Steps

  1. Open Posts → Tags and search for an existing label before creating a duplicate.
  2. Use a concise, consistent name and review its slug.
  3. Assign relevant tags in the post editor. Prefer a few useful recurring labels over a long list of loosely related words.
  4. Save the post and inspect its tag links if the theme displays them.
  5. Review existing tags periodically for duplicates, misspellings, or labels that provide little navigation value.

Check the result

A tag archive should contain a coherent set of related posts that helps a reader explore the site.

Before you continue

Adding tags does not guarantee search ranking improvements. Renaming a tag and changing its slug have different effects; a changed slug can alter the archive URL. Plan redirects and update navigation before replacing established public tag addresses.
